Decoy Defined:In French, he is the L'Homme d'Attaque, who is responsible for the developing, and the testing of dogs participating in the Ringsports. When French Ringsport was introduced to the United States, the term Decoy was assigned as the English translation for L'homme d'attaque. The name was given to draw distinction between trainers of different disciplines of the time; Helper (IGP), Agitator (Police), etc. |
Thus, the term Decoy should not be confused with a police k9 agitator, a schutzhund/IGP helper or a bad guy in any other protection sport that offers up a clear "target". Each discipline has a set of specialized skills suited for their training systems but none has the attention to technical detail and the skills that are demanded in the French Ringsport.
"A French Ringsport Decoy is not only an adversary during trials, but in training, a teacher who's responsibility is to arm dogs with the tools and skills needed to apprehend and combat their target. From that skill set, the canine can adapt to any confrontation with a man",
Adrian Moreno.
